I found this picture of the headstone of Keats's friend and confidante John Hamilton Reynolds, which I thought I'd share with you:



I love how so many of Keats's circle make a point of referring to their association with the poet on their headstones!

Reynolds had a difficult later life. Following problems with bankrupcy, drinking and depression, he died in Newport on the Isle of Wight in 1852 aged 58.

Leonidas Jones published a (rather dry) biography of J.H. Reynolds in 1984 and a collection of his letters ten years earlier.

Reynolds was such a loyal friend. He was a kind-hearted man who suffered heart-breaking losses in his life. He's certainly one of the members of the Keats circle I would have liked to have known.

Yes, the Jones biography was kind of dry, but I enjoyed it for all the background info.
