Poetry reading

So there I was poetry reading,
Or rather poet-reading, well
Actually not even reading his
Poems but reading about him
Poetry reading: poetry reading
By proxy. The Northern lag, SA:
The new man - middle fifties but
A literary baby; already he was
Curriculum-fodder at school
When poetry was a very chore,
A conundrum to be solved, a
Hodge-podge of images read
In half faded, smudged hand outs
Or projected, on transparencies
By the tweed encrusted master,
Throwing those wasted numbers
Against the wall of spotty teens
Gawping, and gum chewing brats.
___________
"Oh what a misery it is to have an intellect in splints".
