The witch

The woman in the house
Behind the playground
Was a witch, we knew.
We were certain; why
Else did girls scream
And run from sight?
Us lads we braved
The fence, manly
Ducking in and out
Of the gaping holes
In our wry disbelief.

She never came out
That I remember
But the grass grew,
It seemed to us as
Tangled as knotted
Oak in spooky woods.

Childhood's fancies,
It's imaginings wild
Exceed the greatest
Poet's rational tales,
The metaphysical or
The fantastical verse.
It's innocence holds
Crystal-delicate dream
In it's waking state,
Seated on it's faery
Throne; Oberon, his
Golden-bright consort
Reign secure over the
Kingdom of the mind
Of every sweet youth.
"Oh what a misery it is to have an intellect in splints".

Ah this takes me back Saturn, there was indeed an old ram shackled house where we
dared each other to walk up to the front door, no one ever did.
Is there some old haunted house in every one's childhood? Good stuff.
Take care.
That I might drink, and leave the world unseen.
