Forgive my loitering with two in a row, friends.

it is the will of some relic siren augur
that I must be like Boudicca—
burn for touch,
yet battle for freedom from it

slaying tangibles—
breasts bare, backbone like a barge
ferrying the weight of manic ‘why’s?’,
armies of unheard screams—painted toes bloody
from leading the charge.

I’d rather be a lesser queen,
a demoted goddess—
let my fever trail off in the cool green deep…
Tip-toe off the march—

hide in arms of leaves.
reign unafraid—over thickets of sighs,
let wet cover wings, quivering thighs

thick skin, wide eyes
Voice flying—carbon-edged—silent, fast
Through air like a battle cry of trees

I’ll fashion the curve of my bow
with my knees—
fasten the fletching taut,
aim my broadhead straight at shame—

take the infinitesimal bullseye out
"I am certain of nothing but the holiness of the heart's affections and the Truth of Imagination."
